NEUROFEEDBACK

What is NEUROFEEDBACK?

Neurofeedback is a drug-free technology that utilises specialized monitoring equipment to measure and provide real-time feedback on brainwave activity. By training and regulating the brain’s activity, it aims to enhance cognitive functioning, emotional regulation, and overall brain performance. Neurofeedback can be effective in addressing conditions associated with dysregulation or imbalances in brainwave patterns.

How does Neurofeedback Work?

Neurofeedback is a technique that trains relaxation, attention, concentration, and memory by providing real-time feedback on brainwave activity. The process begins with the attachment of an Electroencephalography (EEG) amplifier to the head, which measures the electrical potentials generated by the brain. These potentials are interpreted as brainwaves and are categorized into different bandwidths, such as delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma.

The brainwave data is analysed in both its raw form and through various software filters to identify any deviations from the norm. By comparing the individual’s brainwave patterns to a database of EEGs, practitioners can determine areas of difference and identify potential areas of concern or improvement. This analysis includes examining the relationship between brainwaves, the symmetry of brain activity, the stability of brainwave patterns, and any problematic signals that may be associated with symptoms or behaviours.

Neurofeedback sessions involve providing visual or auditory feedback to the individual based on their brainwave activity. This feedback is designed to help train the brain to self-regulate and optimise its functioning. Over time, individuals learn to modify their brainwave patterns.

The QEEG Brain Mapping Assessment is a direct method that measures various aspects of brain activity, including development, balance, attention, concentration, relaxation, and learning activity. It does so by measuring the electrical signals, known as brainwaves, that are generated by the brain during information exchange. This assessment is particularly accurate and beneficial for diagnosing and treating children with hyperactivity problems, offering a reliable alternative to traditional written exams.

Neurofeedback is a safe and beneficial therapy for both children and adults. It offers numerous long-term advantages, including:
